Soybeans originated in Southeast Asia and were first domesticated by Chinese farmers around 1100 BC. Soybeans belong to the legume or pea family and are often used as soy flour, soy yogurt, soy milk, and tofu. Made from the extracted seeds of the soybeans and is known as the vegetable oil that is often used in cooking because they provide a complete plant-based protein source. A study published in the year 2016 concluded that soybean oil is a good option for high-heat cooking methods like roasting, baking, frying, and sautéing, as it can withstand high temperatures without breaking down. Other vegetable oil such as unrefined extra-virgin olive oil that has a smoke point of about 375°F (191°C), while the soybean oil has a relatively high smoke point of about 450°F (230°C). The smoke point of an oil is the temperature at which fats start to break down and oxidize. This results in the formation of harmful, disease-causing compounds called free radicals, which can cause oxidative stress in the body. So, using relatively high smoke point cooking oil such as soybean oil is a good option for high-heat cooking.
Also, soybean oil is rich in omega-6 fats which can help with several health benefits, especially when it comes to your heart, skin, and bones. Vitamin E, omega-3, and omega-6 fatty acids have a lot of benefits not only to the skin but also to our hair! It provides hydration to our skin which can fight inflammation to our scalp and aids in hair growth by strengthening the hair follicle and fighting free radicals that can damage skin cells on the scalp that can lead to hair loss, and the proteins and amino acids that can help build keratin which strengthens the hair fibers making them more elastic and less prone to breakage. Soybean oil’s main asset to hair is moisture retention. It’s non-greasy oil, great for sealing your hair ends, and for usage as a base oil for essential oils. All these factors make soybean oil an especially great option for thick, curly hair.

But worry no more, soybean oil has omega-3 fatty acids that help to maintain cell membranes and help protect them, especially around the eyes and delicate portions of the skin which are easy entry points for microbes. Omega-3 fatty acids can also promote better vision by neutralizing free radicals that can cause macular degeneration and cataracts. Healthy glowing skin with a good vision? This study published in the year 2017 says that Vitamin K is best known for its effect on blood clotting, it also plays a vital role in regulating bone metabolism. And it shows that Vitamin K is necessary for the synthesis of specific proteins that are crucial for maintaining bone mass, such as osteocalcin.
