Skin type varies from one person to another, and thus implies that the skin requirement of one may not be the same as another. Knowing and understanding your skin type pretty much saves you from a lot of hassle in the long run. Consider it as a core foundation in your skincare routine. So, the next time you feel like jumping from one skincare product to another, better ask yourself first, “How well do I know my skin type?”
What are the common skin types?
- Normal Skin – Consider your skin blessed when your skin type falls under this spectrum. This skin type is balanced and does not have any uncomfortable issues. A person who has normal skin show visible signs of no excessive shine pores not enlarged, and skin usually does not feel tight after washing. Normal skin does not necessarily imply acne-free, so proper skin care is needed such as cleansing, moisturizing, and exfoliating to keep things in check.
- Dry Skin – People experiencing this skin type tends to feel rough, dull skin, and no visible signs of pores. Take note that cleansing plays a vital role in your beauty routine, however, in the cause of dry skin type, people tend to experience tightness of skin after doing this. Do not get all worked up in dealing with this one as it can be addressed by using lighter and gentle skincare products.
- Oily Skin – While others are pretty much annoyed with excessive dryness the other end of the spectrum experience excessive oiliness. One common signs of oily skin are oily T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin), large and visible pores, frequent breakout, and excessive shine. The idea alone is pretty much stressful, but with the right skincare products packed with beneficial ingredients, sure that dealing with this matter could give less hassle. Have you, by any chance, asked yourself how to deal with this matter? Choose skincare ingredients that can unclog pores such as salicylic acid , glycolic acid, tea tree oil, or green tea
- Combination – While there are people dealing with normal skin, there are some who are dealing with in between any of those. Those who are experiencing a combination of skin often have oily T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) dry spots on cheeks, and flaky itchy under the eye area. In dealing with this skin condition, exfoliate dead skin cells using the gentle exfoliant, oil-free products on your T-Zone and pick a thicker moisturizer for your cheeks.
Now having said all these, have you been examining what skin type you probably have?
Check out these possible steps to take in getting to know your skin more:
- Take the day test
Experts in this field believe that the easiest way to determine your skin type is to check how it performs from morning to evening on a daily basis. Checked out the checklist below to be able to understand your skin more.
- At the end of the day, does my skin looks oily and shiny? If yes, oily skin
- At the end of the day, how does my T-zone shimmer? While the rest of my face feels matte? If both conditions exist, combination skin.
- At the end of the day, does my skin feels light with no excessive oiliness, flakiness, redness, or none at all? Then, thank the universe as you are blessed with normal skin.
- At the end of the day, does my skin feel tight? If yes, then you probably are dealing with dry skin.
- Wash Test
Another way to address and get to know your skin more is to wash it when it is relatively calm. Wash thy face with a mild cleanser without applying anything afterward. Examine how your skin feels after that.
