Yes, your neck needs skincare too.
The most common focus when caring for the skin is the face, forehead, and chin. How about your neck? The skin under your neck is as prone to wrinkles and other forms of skin aging as the skin on your face. Thus, explains why your skincare has to go beyond your face. Can you recall the moments when you intentionally applied skincare products to your neck area? If you do not have any vivid memory of doing it, then this might be the best time you get started doing it. It is never too late to start a new routine, prevention is key, or else, you’ll end up regretting neglecting this area.
According to the experts, the neck has fewer sebaceous glands than those seen in the face so it does not get the benefit of natural oils from the glands to moisturize itself, making it more susceptible to drying.
Developing a neck wrinkle can’t be completely avoided as it comes with aging, however, with good skincare habits, routines, and regimen, you can at least slow down the aging process.
If you are in your early 20s getting started with pampering the neck of your skin, you are doing it right and you sure would reap what you sow. If you’re in your 30’s and 40’s, do not get frustrated. Again, remember, prevention is better than cure. You are doing just right.
Here are top skincare habits and practices to establish in line with takin care of your skin.
- Decrease the external causes
What could it be? UV rays. These harmful ultraviolet rays can actually penetrate into the dermal layer of the skin that breaks down collagen and elastin, the most abundant protein in the human body. Combat the adverse effect of UV lights by wearing an SPF with a broad spectrum.

- Get rid of your unhealthy habits
Staying late at night? Overdrinking? Smoking? Not only do these accelerate the aging process in your skin it also adds up to the deterioration of your overall health. Practice healthy habits and healthy eating especially when you are a bit late in taking your skincare seriously.
3. Treat your neck as an extension of your face
Make sure that you optimize moisture and hydration. Moisturize, moisturize, and moisturize. Moisturizers are of the essence in preventing dryness, slowing down the aging process, and an added sun protection. Moisturizers infused with Hyaluronic acid can not only draw moisture but can also visibly plump and hydrate the skin.
- Exfoliate (but be careful not to overdo it)
Like the skin on your face, your neck is also susceptible to accumulating dead skin cells and as a result, it may lead to skin that looks rough and old. Yikes, you sure would not want that to happen. A gentle exfoliation would work wonders to promote circulation and prepare your skin for moisturizing.

- Use skincare products designed specifically for the neck
If you’re going to ask if it is safe to use skincare products the answer would be, maybe. Face products that are specifically intended to improve the elasticity and collagen in the skin are those that work well on your neck area. However, be cautious in using anti-acne products and retinol, your thin neck skin only needs less of this.
- Stop looking down at your phone
Guilty, are you? Experts believed that looking down at your phone can make the skin on your neck droop. Yes, despite using skincare religiously. To better avoid this, try using the phone upward motion. Also, exposure to blue light can contribute to free radical damage that can lead to skin hyperpigmentation.
