What are Acne Scars?

The result of inflamed blemishes caused by swollen skin pores with excess oil, dead skin cells is called Acne scars. It is an infection or a result of swelling pore. Shallow lesions are minor and can heal quickly but if infected, can be a deeper lesion. New collagen fibers are formed when the skin attempts to repair these lesions. And these repairs are not as smooth and intact just like your original skin.

Normally, there are 3 types of acne scars

  • Ice pick scars – narrow, needle like indentations, leaving deep holes on your skin

  • Rolling scars– these are raised, wide, smooth, wave like indentations scars, your skin looks uneven and are mainly caused by scar tissue which is formed under the skin

  • Boxcar scars – the most common acne scar which are round, deep scars and are wider than ice pick scars

What causes acne scars?

  • Oily food.

  • Bacteria that’s on acne.

  • Stress (though psychological, stress reflects physiological)

  • Dirt turned bacteria reproduction.

When your body is trying to repair the acne, scars occur. It is how your body uniquely responds to a wound affects if and the way much scarring you’ll have and how much scarring you’ll have. Raised scars appear if there is an excessive amount of collagen. This is a process of repair that includes the creation of collagen. Other scarring is caused by the loss of tissue, which creates pits or indentations within the skin.

Now, let’s turn to the effective ways to get rid of scars.

Never Squeeze Your Pimples. When the pore is infected, a pimple is formed. Oils, bacteria and picking or squeezing pimples also causes additional infection and further inflammation that gives a chance of scarring into our skin.

Laser Therapy. This type of treatment works at a deeper level which targets the injured skin to activate its natural self-healing process. Complexion appears smoother once the skin is renewed. Wide range of laser variants are available and should only be conducted by an experienced dermatologist to avoid injuries onto skin.

Fruit Acids. This treatment is frequently used to treat acne scarred skin. Up to 12% of mild concentrations are available for home use while up to 40% of concentrations are allowed for the beauticians and 70% are allowed for dermatologists on the most appropriate concentration for your skin.

At-home Chemical Peels. One of the most popular ways to try in removing acne scars from your face are chemical peels. It typically helps you get a nice, smooth texture and lighten the darker areas of your face so scarring would become less visible. It unclogs your pores that helps prevent future acne breakouts. How are chemical peels such miracle workers? Chemical peels work by taking off the top layer of the skin from your face, giving you a fresh and glowing new skin.

Natural Home Remedies. Many people are also considering giving a try of natural products to get rid of acne scars. Aloe vera and shea butter are some of the products that are enriched with natural remedies which may help reduce acne scars.

Use of home remedies such as baking soda or even lemon juice remove acne scars for some people but might be effective for some, and not so well for others causing extra irritation on the skin and making acne even worse.
