Summer, perhaps, is the favorite season of the majority.  Who would not even love to have a dip in the pool while the weather is scorching hot? Plus, the waves of laughter, you’d share with the people close and matter to you? Time indeed flies so fast, one fine day you are enjoying a walk because it’s Spring and with a blink of an eye Summer embraces you with the hotter weather it brings. Living in a new normal, what activities do you look forward to doing as the season changes? Beach? Yay! That sounds like a great plan! Longer sun exposure – and yes! You can finally have the sun kisses you’ve been longing for so long. Changing season means more than just a switch in your wardrobes. This will require you as well a bit of update in terms of your skincare routine. What worked well for your skin last Winter may not exactly perform best in Summer.

The first thing for you to make the most out of this season is to fully understand what might happen to your skin if not properly taken care of. The skin’s sebaceous glands are affected during the increase in temperatures. This makes oily skin appear oilier and dry skin appear rough and patchy. The intensity of sun ray during this season also causes tanning. The sunburn that you enjoyed much during summer? Sorry to say this but this adds up to your skin’s aging. The heat during this season may also cause pores to open, which may get clogged with dirt and oil, and the result? Unnecessary breakout.  Pretty sure you don’t want to spend your summer popping pimples, right?

We’ve got your skin concerns pretty much covered as you look forward to having your summer to remember!

The season for SPF!

Summer skincare without SPF? That sounds horrible! It is indeed the season when you should not get your SPF out of your sight. Keep in mind that it plays a vital role in your summer skincare routiIn looking for a sunscreen that works take into consideration these tips from the American Academy of Dermatology Association (1) at least SPF30 (2) labeled as broad-spectrum protection, this means that your sunscreen offers protection both on UVB and UVA rays, (3) has lip protection. Note that it is important to wear sunscreen daily to reduce the risk of developing skin cancer.

Switch to a lighter moisturizer

The thick creams you were using through the winter months won’t do any good now.  During the warm season, as the temperature rams up, the skin’s ability to hold water ramps up as well that may be true in the sense that people tend to sweat a lot during the hotter days.

This suggests that it is advisable to switch your heavier winter moisturizer to a water-based one. Water-based moisturizer works in order to prevent over saturating the skin and clogging pores. Apart from that, look for a dual-purpose moisturizer, a combination of moisturizer and sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher would be of big help.

Exfoliate once or twice a week

Exfoliation plays an important role in removing dirt, waste, and dead skin cells. It is vital in keeping your skin bright and healthy. With that being said, it is important that you consider a gentle exfoliating cleanser. Exfoliating doesn’t necessarily have to be done on a daily basis. Once or twice a week is enough to make sure that you get to remove the debris from the sweat, SPF, and oil that accumulates.

Do not forget your toner

The warmer and hotter weather may cause pores to open. On the other note, the increased activity in the skin’s sebaceous glands tends to make skin appear oilier giving you ample reason to keep toner handy as well in your skincare routine. Toners are specifically designed to shrink pores, clear out sebum, and restore the skin’s pH level.  Keep an eye on the T-zone of your face because this is where the largest concentration of sebaceous glands will tend to look slickest. In looking for a toner that works,  a cucumber or aloe vera-based toner during this season is said to be light and refreshing.

Wash daily

In you Summer skincare routine, when there is an extra sweat, cleanse! The humidity produces a warm, moist environment where the microbes that live in your skin may overgrow, causing yeasts, infections, and bacteria to appear. With that being said, if you are dealing with a bit of oily skin, chances are you get to experience an oilier face more. As such, look for a cleanser infused with salicylic and glycolic acid as this helps loosen dead skin cells that promote cell turnover.

Careful with Retinol

While the benefits that retinol could offer are known to the beauty industry. You must take all the considerations needed in using it during your summer skincare as this ingredient is known to be pretty strong and could make your skin more sensitive especially when exposed to harmful UV rays.
