However, if you love roaming around under the sun and spend some of your me time in tanning beds, the chances of having age spot is pretty high. Melamin the one responsible for giving skin a color, when exposed to lots of UV rays may result to black spots. Everyone is capable of developing dark spots but for those who have fair skin, the odds of developing are likely high.

Level up your sun safety habits. Consider this the over-the-counter solution to minimize the current age spot appearance and as well as preventing future ones from forming. When choosing a sunscreen, experts highly recommend sunscreens with SPF30 or higher. Reapply based on what is instructed on the packaging.

Consider over the counter fading creams

With continuous research and product development, fading creams that specifically targets lightening and removing age spots are made readily available over the counter. But, Queens! Do not expect and abrupt result. Of course, skincare involves discipline and consistency. If you’d like to give this option a try, these are some of the skincare ingredients to look out for: hydroquinone, glycolic acid, kojic acid, licorice root extract and niacinamide. Two of the most prescribed ingredients in fading cream are: hydroquinone and tretinoin. Just a little bit of reminder about Hydroquinone, this ingredient is generally considered as a gold standard of lightening because it works by slowing down the melanin production. However, according to a board certified plastic surgeon, Anthony Youn, this ingredient tends to be harsher on the skin and may somehow cause irritation. On the other hand, tretinoin is a retinol cream that helps in improving skin texture and reducing the pigmentation.

Topical application may take some time to see visible results. Again, this require consistency and discipline. But if you are up to faster result you may opt to one of the in-clinic consultations and procedures.

Chemical Peels

According to New Jersey based board-certified dermatologists Dr. Shari Sperling, This process involves applying an acid to the affected area, which then leads to burning the skin’s outer layer to where age spots are camping out. Giving way to a new layer of skin.
There is even a study that supported the efficacy of chemical peels. In a study of comparison between chemical peels and cryotherapy, it was then found out that patients undergoing chemical peels had a 50% age spot lightening while patients undergoing cryotherapy have slightly better and visible results. Apart from that, healing process in chemical peel is way faster that the skin healing in cryotherapy.
