Tea is perhaps one of the healthiest drinks one should probably think of.  For any of you that is very much particular with your health, sure that it has a spot in your daily healthy diet. Green tea is getting mainstream attention when topics about healthy drinks are put on the line. Have you ever heard of white tea? Like any other tea, this is made from Camelia sinensis plant and it’s the different processing methods that give them their unique flavors and aromas. The colors are green, black, and white tea. Among the three of those, white tea is the least processed one. Thus, allowing it to retain a high amount of antioxidants. It has been shown to have up to thrice as much antioxidant content as compared to green tea. These antioxidants are known to protect us from any chronic disease, reduce inflammation, improve one’s skin texture and appearance, and are also linked to improving cardiovascular health and lower cholesterol.

White tea is packed with antioxidants
Thrice as much antioxidant content? Who would say no to this tea? White tea is packed with a type of polyphenols called catechins.  Antioxidants play a key role in keeping the cells protected from free radicals. When addressed,  this helps in keeping the skin young-looking, stronger immune system, and is beneficial in getting rid of chronic inflammation. This study published in the year 2011 concluded the efficacy of this tea in reducing skin inflammation. 

Promotes younger-looking skin
Your skin is exposed to varieties of environmental aggressors makes it more prone to skin aging. May it be external or internal factors, both these add up to wrinkle build-up. While some of you found it very frustrating, good thing is, white tea have you all covered up for this. This study published in the year 2009 found out that topical application of skincare products infused with white tea helped protect the skin against the harmful effect of the sun’s UV rays. 


Potential ingredient in treating acne
EGCG (epigallocatechin-gallate) major polyphenolic compound present in teas was found to exhibit therapeutic properties such as anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties both are which are believed to be beneficial for your skin.  A 2016 Study explored the effects of polyphenols in sebum production and acne vulgaris. EGCG is anti-androgenic – androgens are hormones that your body naturally produces.  Fluctuating levels of androgen can cause your sebaceous glands to overproduce sebum which could actually result in acne flare-ups. EGCG actually helps reduce lipid levels thus potentially slowing down the overproduction of sebum which in turn helps in lessening the development of acne. 


Soothes inflamed skin
White tea’s polyphenol content called, catechins are a natural antioxidant that prevents cell damage. It aids your skin in combating damages caused by free radicals.  It helps reduce skin irritation, redness, and swelling.

Helps lose weight

White tea’s EGCG (epigallocatechin-gallate) major polyphenolic compound of white tea has been linked to burning fat. In fact, this study concluded that white tea extract was able to stimulate fat breakdown and prevents new fat cells from forming.

 

Reduces the risk of heart disease
Heart disease is strongly linked to chronic inflammation and other unhealthy habits. Polyphenol contents found in teas help reduce the risk of developing this disease in varieties of ways.  Studies concluded that polyphenols help the blood vessel relax and boost one’s immunity. Another promising study concluded that tea white tea consumption of 3 cups or more in a day lowers the risk of developing heart disease by merely 21%. 

 

Fights off the growth of certain cancer
This study published in the year 2015 discovered that white tea extract inhibits the growth of colon cancers. Its antioxidant content protects normal cells from damage caused by harmful molecules. 

On the other note, The EGCG content of white tea extract helps combat DNA damage from harmful UV rays that have the potential to cause skin cancer.
