What is good for your heart is indeed good for your brain as well – this pretty much explains why a sip of green tea gives you that extra focus feels. But above all the healthy benefits that everyone is already familiar with have, has it ever crossed your mind that green tea is also beneficial for your skin? Yes, you see it right, you reap too many benefits with just a cup of green tea from your overall well-being to your skin’s health. Indeed, green tea is a wonder drink. Sit back and relax as we bring you another good news about how well these wonder leaves from the Camellia Sinensis plant works well on your skin.

Green tea extract is a potential ingredient in treating acne

EGCG (epigallocatechin-gallate) major polyphenolic compound present in green tea was found to exhibit therapeutic properties such as anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties both are which are believed to be beneficial for your skin. 2016 Study explored the effects of polyphenols present in green tea and its effect on sebum production and acne vulgaris. EGCG is anti-androgenic – androgens are hormones that your body naturally produces.  Fluctuating levels of androgen can cause your sebaceous glands to overproduce sebum which could actually result in acne flare-ups. EGCG actually helps reduce lipid levels thus potentially slows down the overproduction of sebum which in turn helps in lessening the development of acne. To further validate this claim, 2016 Study exploring the supplementation with green tea extract to improve acne in post-adolescent women where subjects took 1,500 mg of green tea extract for merely 4-weeks. It was then concluded that subjects showed a significant reduction in the red skin bumps and causes of acne.

Green tea prevents skin aging

Handle skin aging like a pro with the help of green tea extract. Drinking tea and applying it to your skin topically can actually help you ease the process of combating skin aging.

Green tea’s micronutrient contains EGCG is the one solely responsible for green tea’s skin repair properties. Its antioxidant content helps prevent sun damage, boosts skin hydration, and prevents wrinkles from showing up as early as now.

To further validate this claim of green tea’s ability to combat skin aging, study published in the year 2005 exploring the effect of oral supplements and topical application on the aging skin. The study concluded that a combination of oral and topical application of green tea extract in your skincare regimen for about 8 weeks could actually show a significant improvement in your skin’s elasticity.

Green tea extracts fight skin cancer

The EGCG content of green tea extracts helps combat DNA damage from harmful UV rays that have the potential to cause skin cancer. Green tea enhances skin’s DNA repair which is essential in preventing non-melanoma skin cancer.

Polyphenols content of green tea are potent antioxidant, essential in getting rid of free radicals in the body. Researchers believe that free radicals play a role in skin cancer development.  EGCG, a green tea derived polyphenol, exhibits antitumor activities.

Green tea extract soothes inflamed skin

Green tea’s polyphenol content called, catechins are a natural antioxidant that prevents cell damage. It aids your skin in combating damages caused by free radicals.  It helps reduce skin irritation, redness, and swelling.
